Fequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
No.  We provide Bernina sewing machines and Bernina and Janome overlockers. If you would prefer to bring your own sewing machine please contact Diane in advance of starting the course.

Do I need to bring my own scissors, pins etc.?
I will provide you with all the equipment you will need for any one of the categories of course available to you. This includes the smaller equipment like pins, scissors etc. The paper for pattern cutting is also included in the price and the samples of fabrics and any art equipment you may need for the design category.
You will however have to provide your own fabrics, patterns and notions on certain courses but this will be written in the course description and in the welcome pack you will receive from us, you can contact me to ask advice before  attending the course, if you so require.
You can also choose to bring your own equipment like sewing machine and overlocker, if you would like to get used to using your own equipment this is usually on the how to thread your sewing machine or overlocker courses. Please contact me if you would like to do this

Will I have to bring fabrics and thread?
For the Beginners, Improvers and Advanced dressmaking classes you will need to bring your own fabric and for some classes a commercial pattern, so you can make that individual garment to fit you.  Advice and information will be provided on booking and with the welcome pack we send to you.

Do I need to bring a packed lunch?
You will need to either bring a packed lunch with you which can be stored in our separate fridge or you can have a sandwich or snack at the café next door. There are also a local chip shop, Mc Donald’s and local shops which supply sandwiches if you require them. We provide you with all soft drinks and hot drinks of your choice and there are plenty of biscuits and cakes to keep you going so please feel free to help yourself whilst you are with us. If you have any special requirements you will have to provide your own drinks and snacks i.e. biscuits, milk etc.
There are two areas where you can have a break, outside under the gazebo (summer only) or in the lounge area. It is always good to take a break it gives you renewed enthusiasm to continue with your project and time to chat with other likeminded people about how you are progressing with your project. 
There is one designated 30 minute break at 12 noon. You are allowed drinks whenever you want them but no drinks are allowed by the machines, pattern cutting table etc.

What time do courses start?
Most of the courses start at 10am and we ask that you arrive at 9-30am so as to give yourself time to settle in and be ready for the group welcome, introduction and demonstration. This will also give you make yourself a drink, hang your coat up and put your personal belongings in your personal area.

Are there any stairs to get to the studio?
No but there is a small step at the rear entrance and a small step at the front entrance.

Can I get to you by public transport?
Yes. The nearest railway station is Peterborough and you could catch a bus or get a taxi to the studios. The nearest airport is Luton, Stansted, East Midlands or Birmingham.

Where can I stay?
There are B & B’s in the area, there is a Travelodge within walking distance  our village of Eye, Peterborough. There are also plenty of hotels in Peterborough and the surrounding area. 

Do you have parking?
Yes, there is plenty of onsite parking at the rear of the studios. There is also plenty of short term parking at the front if you need to drop off anything heavy.

You are not listing the course I would like to do?
We are adding new courses all the time please just complete an enquiry form or ring to discuss what you are interested in doing. Alternatively we also offer 1:1 tuition sessions, so you can develop skills and have a tailored session specifically for you.

Is there anything I need to consider about working safely before I come?
Please consider your dress and footwear for classes. No loose scarves or clothing, high heels, avoid very long nails and prepare to tie long hair back please especially around machines.

Booking terms & Conditions
Once made, a booking cannot be transferred to an alternative date. If for any reason you are unable to attend please feel free to send a substitute. If you book a workshop for several days duration please make sure you can attend all days. Please check the dates carefully prior to booking.
All courses must be paid for in full prior to the course start date. Payment can be made by cash, PayPal, credit/debit card or cheques. Whether booking by post or online you are acknowledging that you have read and accept the terms and conditions. Once a booking has been made, you will receive a confirmation email and information about any materials or equipment required. You will also receive a welcome pack giving you any information about the course you have purchased.

Refund / Cancellation Policy
Cancellations by you: Refunds will only be given under exceptional circumstances and will be considered on an individual basis.
Cancellations by us: In the unlikely event that we have to cancel a workshop/course you will be given at least 24hours notice and offered a transfer to another date or receive a full refund. We will not be held liable for any other costs or expenses that you may incur in the event of cancellation by us.
